One of my favorites. Bogdonovitch was ahead of his time, using Russian sci-fi alongside his male fantasy of a playmate planet. The atmosphere is inimitable.

Try again...there's a movie based on a story by a man you've obviously never heard of child. Anna Karenina by Tolstory. Then there is The Love Song of J Alfred Prufrock. Both made into fills WAY before this one. Otherwise, the 30's were the Great Depression. Please watch more films! I adore this one, but Metropolis is so amazing! As is Flesh and the Devil.

I've read Anna Karenina, and seen the Vivien Leigh film, and I don't remember much musing on Anna's suicide by her family in either the book or film. If anything a once respected and now isolated, rejected, and opioid crazed Russian aristocrat diving in front of a train in Tsarist Russia is the least realistic example of suicide you could possibly suggest.
